Beyond 12 was selected by Google as one of the top 10 in the Bay Area Impact Challenge! We will receive funding to develop the next generation of MyCoach, a mobile app that brings the effectiveness of our personal college coaches to a critical mass of low-income college students. Through a public voting campaign, four of the top 10 finalists will have the opportunity to receive an additional $250,000. Voting ends of June 2nd.

Beyond 12 welcomes Shonda Rhimes to its board of directors! Rhimes is best known as the creator and executive producer of the popular ABC television series Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, as well as a film screenwriter. Rhimes joins a diverse board of directors at Beyond 12 that includes experts from the education, nonprofit, technology and business communities.

Beyond 12 has been selected as a top Bay Area nonprofit! Philanthropedia surveyed 99 experts working in education to identify organizations that were having the biggest impact. These experts reviewed 162 organizations and identified 17 as top performers. As a new organization, we are thrilled to be on the list with so many amazing organizations that have been improving educational outcomes for students for many years. Congrats to all of these top performers. Here's to increasing our impact in the Bay Area...and beyond!
Beyond 12 celebrated its 3rd birthday with the screening of the documentary First Generation at Dolby Laboratories' Screening Room. The film narrated by Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood, tells the story of four high school students who set out to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families by pursuing a college education.

Beyond 12's CEO, Alexandra Bernadotte, was recently selected as an Ashoka fellow, one of the highest honors for social entrepreneurs in the world! Ashoka is a global association of the world's leading social entrepreneurs-individuals with innovative, large-scale ideas for addressing social problems. Beyond 12 is recruiting College Coaches for both San Francisco and Atlanta!
As of today, Beyond 12 is tracking the post-secondary progress of 10,496 college students, and coaching 816 first and second year college students!!! Thank you so much to all of our secondary and post-secondary partners who are committed to ensuring that their students not only get into college but that they earn college degrees. Thank you to our donors, advisors, board of directors and staff who always go above and beyond in service of our students. And, most of all, thank you to our courageous students who, despite facing tremendous obstacles, remain committed to their college journeys. Success in college, success for life, indeed!
Beyond 12 announces a new partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District, City College of San Francisco and the San Francisco Education Fund to create a summer bridge program, and coach and track 250 first-generation and underrepresented students who are graduating from SFUSD in the spring and planning to enroll at CCSF in the fall of 2011.
